Philadelphia Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood was given 18 carries on Thursday but was unable to do much with them, racking up just 51 yards. He only caught one pass, and it went for no gain. Smallwood out-touched Corey Clement 19-14, but Clement was clearly the better player. Clement should continue to outplay Smallwood going forward, but as long as he's getting well over a dozen carries, Smallwood could be a lower end Flex option.

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to use running backs Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood in a tandem approach on Thursday night against the Giants. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman believes the Eagles trust Smallwood much more than they did last year and have been happy with the way he's played in 2018. Clement is the slightly more attractive RB3/flex, but both backs should be picked up off the waiver wire this week with Jay Ajayi (knee) done for the season. Smallwood had three carries for 27 yards and three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown in relief of Ajayi in Week 5. Clement is fully expected to return Thursday after sitting out the last two games.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood is a solid option for Week 6 against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. Smallwood has been effective when given the opportunity, finishing two of the past three weeks as the RB14 or better. Now that Jay Ajayi (torn ACL) is done for the season, Smallwood and Corey Clement will be sharing backfield work for the Eagles. Smallwood is likely to take on the early down role and work between the 20s, while Clement will work more in a receiving and red zone role. That limits Smallwood's upside a bit, but should provide him with a decent floor. He can be counted on as a solid Flex option this week.
