Jaydon Mickens News
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed wide receiver Jaydon Mickens to their active roster from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad on Tuesday following the season-ending hip injury to Jamal Agnew last Sunday. Marvin Jones Jr. and Laviska Shenault Jr. will be the team's top two receivers going forward, with Laquon Treadwell, Tavon Austin and now Mickens in the mix to fight for No. 3 duties. The 27-year-old Mickens was active for six games with Tampa but never saw a target in their crowded receiver picture. Mickens spent the first two seasons of his career with Jacksonville and caught just six of 11 targets for 77 yards and two touchdowns, which all came in 2017. He's strictly a depth option at wideout for the Jags and can be ignored in fantasy for now.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut wide receiver Jaydon Mickens on Monday. The team also released outside linebacker Elijah Ponder from the practice squad, activated offensive lineman John Molchon from Injured Reserve and signed cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson to the practice squad. Mickens returned eight punts and five kickoffs on special teams in five games for the Buccaneers this year, but he wasn't targeted at all on offense. In 10 games for Tampa last season, Mickens managed to catch seven of his 10 targets for 58 yards. He has just 13 catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns in his career as mostly a return man on special teams.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers Jaydon Mickens and Justin Watson have seen their stock fall this offseason. Mickens was the primary returner on punts and kickoffs in 2020, but his future is uncertain after the team drafted rookie Jaelon Darden as a potential replacement. And Mickens didn't exactly stand out in return duties last year. He'll need to show more offensive value in order to avoid being a roster casualty in training camp. Watson is also firmly on the roster bubble in a deep receiving room. Nearly all of his value in 2020 also came on special teams with the coverage units. Watson was inactive for three of four playoff games, and his offensive role vanished with Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson emerging. The 25-year-old had zero targets after Week 4.
