Gary Kubiak News
The Minnesota Vikings are turning to Gary Kubiak, who has been an assistant head coach and offensive advisor, as their next offensive coordinator, according to sources. Minnesota's previous offensive coordinator, Kevin Stefanski, has left to become the Browns head coach. Not much will change in Minnesota with Kubiak at the helm of the offense, but it is mostly good news for running back Dalvin Cook, who will continue to be the focal point of this offense moving forward. Quarterback Kirk Cousins also benefited from plenty of play-action passing plays while Kubiak was an offensive advisor.
The Denver Broncos announced on Friday that former head coach Gary Kubiak will not be their offensive coordinator after agreeing with him earlier in the week, according to league sources. The Broncos and Kubiak had different ideas on staffing and different offensive philosophies, so they will go in different directions. It's a surprising turn of events, especially since president John Elway and Kubiak have had such a close relationship dating back to their playing days. Denver could now turn to ex-Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, who was a finalist for the head-coaching gig. They will also interview 49ers quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello for the job.
The Denver Broncos announced on Wednesday that former head coach Gary Kubiak will be the team's offensive coordinator in 2019. Kubiak hasn't been on the field coaching in the last two years, but he was still in Denver's front office. He will return to the sidelines to run an offense with plenty of young talent in running backs Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman and wide receiver Courtland Sutton. But until the Broncos find a more consistent quarterback, their offense could continue to be mediocre. Denver ranked 19th in yards per game (350.1), 19th in passing yards per game (230.9), 12th in rushing yards per game (119.2) and 24th in points per game (20.6) in 2018.
