Green Bay Packers quarterback Deshone Kizer has a clearly defined role in Green Bay following the departure of quarterback Brett Hundley. Kizer will serve as the clear cut back-up to Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay will be playing the Chicago Bears in Week 1 and Kizer is not expected to see any playing time. Kizer is a talented, although unrefined quarterback who struggled during his rookie year in Cleveland. We saw last year that no quarterback outside of Aaron Rodgers is really all that capable of running Green Bay's offense. So even if Rodgers were to go down, Kizer would not be a viable fantasy option. Kizer should not be owned in any league.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy praised the newly acquired quarterback DeShone Kizer, saying that he felt Kizer would have been a first-round pick in this year's NFL draft. Green Bay acquired Kizer from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for former first-round cornerback Damarius Randall. It is unclear if McCarthy felt that Kizer is currently as good a prospect as the five quarterbacks who went in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft or if Kizer would have been if he had stayed and developed for another year at Notre Dame. Kizer was poorly managed last year in Cleveland. Still, he looked completely unprepared for the NFL game and had problems with accuracy and turnovers. Kizer is capable of being very accurate when his feet are set but frequently misses targets when he is on the move. Kizer's speed is one of his best assets, so his inability to throw on the run is a huge detriment to his game. Furthermore, it appears that Kizer is attempting to rework his throwing motion this offseason. Overall, Kizer may end up developing into a quality player, but he is still years away. With quarterback Aaron Rodgers cemented as the starter in Green Bay, Kizer should have plenty of time to develop. In the meantime, he will compete with Brett Hundley for the second-string role.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshone Kizer was traded to the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. What a day for the Browns. After trading for receiver Jarvis Landry and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, the team traded Kizer for cornerback Damarious Randall. This could be notable, as star quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a collarbone injury last season and may not be fully healthy. Until there is different news, though, Kizer will be a backup with his new team. This is certainly bad news for Brett Hundley, who filled in for the injured Rodgers last year and was extremely inconsistent.
