Jeremy Sprinkle News
The Dallas Cowboys signed free-agent tight end Jeremy Sprinkle and veteran punter Bryan Anger to undisclosed one-year deals on Wednesday. Sprinkle, 26, spent his first four seasons with Washington and has 34 receptions for 301 yards and three touchdowns in his career. He will be added to a tight end group that includes Blake Jarwin, Dalton Schultz and Sean McKeon. Sprinkle can be ignored in the vast majority of fantasy leagues entering the 2021 season. Anger, 32, averaged 46.4 yards per punt with a 41.8-yard net average in 2020 with the Houston Texans. He has averaged 46.2 yards per punt with a 42.1-yard net average in his career. Anger should compete with Hunter Niswander, who finished as Dallas' punter last season.
Washington Redskins tight end Jeremy Sprinkle was once again mostly a non-factor in Sunday's loss to the Jets, catching two passes for 16 yards on three targets. Unlike the rest of his stat lines this season, which all look a lot like this one, he scored a touchdown in Week 11. The game was all over but the shouting by the time Sprinkle hauled in his one-yard score, as his visit to the endzone narrowed the Redskins' deficit to 17 points with just over a minute left to go in the fourth quarter. Even in an offense nearly devoid of reliable pass-catching options outside of Terry McLaurin, the Redskins have clearly not placed an emphasis on getting the ball to Sprinkle at tight end. He hasn't been targeted more than three times in a game since Week 3. Touchdown or no touchdown, he can continue to be overlooked in fantasy leagues.
Washington Redskins tight end Jeremy Sprinkle has never capitalized on the starting role despite holding it for most of the 2019 season. With that in mind, it matters little whether Vernon Davis (concussion) makes a surprising late-week turnaround or not. Sprinkle has not caught more than two passes nor eclipsed 25 yards receiving in any game this year. With rookie Dwayne Haskins taking over as the starting quarterback, there isn't any reason to believe Sprinkle will suddenly become a stable fantasy option. The Jets are holding tight ends to just under four catches per game.
