Blake Jarwin News
The Dallas Cowboys released tight end Blake Jarwin (hip) and kicker Greg Zuerlein on Friday. The Cowboys continue to make moves to try and get under the salary cap for the 2022 season. Jarwin needed hip surgery this offseason and isn't expected to be available for the start of the 2022 season, so he could struggle to generate interest on the open market. The 27-year-old posted 70 receptions (95 targets) for 780 yards and eight touchdowns in his five seasons in Dallas. Zuerlein went 29-for-35 on his field-goal tries in 2021 and missed six of his 48 extra-point tries in 16 regular season games for Dallas. The Cowboys will save around $2.5 million with Zuerlein's release after he became unreliable late last year.
Dallas Cowboys tight end Blake Jarwin (hip) underwent hip surgery in February that is expected to keep him sidelined to begin the 2022 year, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. Jarwin's hip issue is "considered very uncommon for an active NFL player," which certainly doesn't sound as if it portends well to the tight end's availability and productivity in any capacity next year. Dalton Schultz is slated to become a free agent in the coming weeks, with his appeal to the Cowboys seemingly growing significantly if Jarwin is unavailable. The 27-year-old appeared in eight games (five starts) last year, having hauled in 11 receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns. While Jarwin doesn't jump off the page as a fantasy relevant commodity, his future figures to factor into Dallas' tight end plans one way or the other.
Dallas Cowboys tight end Blake Jarwin (hip) is expected to be available for Saturday's regular-season finale against the Eagles, marking his first game action since Week 8. Jarwin is set to serve as Dallas' second tight end behind Dalton Schultz, who remains Dak Prescott's primary pass-catching target from the position. With that said, Jarwin has snagged two touchdowns this year, potentially serving as a Schultz foil in the red zone for those targeting the TE in DFS lineups. Even when fully healthy, Jarwin has yet to exceed 57 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps in any game this season, so fantasy managers shouldn't anticipate a whopping workload as the team gears up for the playoffs.
