Mike Boone News
The Houston Texans waived running back Mike Boone on Monday and added defensive tackle Teair Tart off waivers from the Tennessee Titans in a corresponding move, according to a source. In nine games with Houston this year, Boone only saw five rushing attempts for 23 yards and caught seven of nine targets for 40 yards in the passing game for the Texans. He had not been on the active game-day roster since Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. Dare Ogunbowale remains the team's No. 3 RB behind Devin Singletary and second-year man Dameon Pierce. Tart missed Week 15 with the Titans due to personal reasons and will now operate as interior defensive line depth for the Texans.
Houston Texans running back Mike Boone was temporarily released by the team but then quickly re-signed, according to beat writer Aaron Wilson. Wilson described the move as "roster gymnastics" as Boone re-signed with the team for the same two-year deal he inked in the offseason. It definitely makes sense for the Texans to keep the veteran running back around to bolster the RB room behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary, especially after Boone showed so well during preseason. He doesn't hold much fantasy value at the moment but could quickly gain traction if anything happened to Pierce or Singletary.
Houston Texans running back Mike Boone had a game-high 51 rush yards on seven carries and had an electric 11-yard touchdown run in Sunday's 17-13 preseason win over the New Orleans Saints. He also caught four passes for 26 yards. The Texans signed running back Mike Boone to a two-year deal this offseason. With Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary locked into the top two running back slots on offense, Boone was likely signed to be RB3. The Texans also brought in competition in Larry Rountree III and Dare Ogunbowale to compete with Boone for the RB3 job. But after Sunday's preseason victory, it appears that role should go to Boone. The veteran had a solid game for Houston and should have a safe roster spot now, especially given his importance on special teams. He spent the first three years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings before signing a two-deal with the Denver Broncos in 2021. Despite a new team, Boone probably shouldn't be drafted in most leagues this season.
