Charvarius Ward News
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward (undisclosed) announced on his Instagram account that he had successful surgery for an undisclosed injury. In the overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, Ward wasn't targeted at all while playing 55 defensive snaps. The 27-year-old was a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career in 2023, recording 72 tackles (56 solo), a career-high five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), a league-high 23 passes defensed and one forced fumble in 17 starts during the regular season in his second year with the Niners. His strong season becomes even more impressive based on the fact that he was likely playing most of it at less than 100 percent. We won't know whether he'll be available for the offseason program until we know what kind of surgery Ward had.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward (groin) and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (calf) have been ruled out for the remainder of Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. Ward has amassed 28 tackles and one pick this season while McGlinchey has played a key role in protecting Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers' skill players.
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward intends to sign a three-year deal worth up to $42 million, including $26.7 million guaranteed, with the San Francisco 49ers, according to his agency. Ward spent his first four seasons with the Chiefs and had 67 tackles (48 solo), two interceptions and 10 passes defensed in 13 regular season games (12 starts). The 25-year-old saw fewer overall defensive snaps for his second straight season, but he was more active and around the ball when he was healthy for KC's secondary. Ward will now take his talents to San Francisco after recording 222 total tackles (168 solo), three tackles for loss, three QB hits, four interceptions and 29 passes defensed in the last four years.
