Chris Board News
The Baltimore Ravens signed free-agent inside linebacker Chris Board to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday, according to sources. Board is returning to the organization that signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of North Dakota State to begin his NFL career. The 28-year-old played the first four seasons of his career with the Ravens from 2018-21 before one-year stops with the Detroit Lions in 2022 and the New England Patriots in 2023. He's played in a total of 97 games since entering the league but has made only three starts. In 17 games last year for the Pats, Board had only 10 tackles (seven solo) while mostly playing on special teams. He'll provide the Ravens with a special-teams presence in 2024.
The Detroit Lions agreed with free-agent linebacker Chris Board on an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday night, according to a source. Board has been a special teams standout and a situational defensive player for the Baltimore Ravens, who made an effort to re-sign him. He's expected to compete for a starting spot on defense in Detroit this year. The 26-year-old has appeared in all but two games for the Ravens in his four seasons in the NFL. In those four years, Board has accumulated 94 tackles (52 solo), three tackles for loss, seven QB hits, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 63 games (two starts). He entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State.
The Baltimore Ravens re-signed linebacker Chris Board to a one-year deal worth $2.68 million on Monday. The deal includes $1.6 million guaranteed. The Ravens didn't tender Board an offer as a restricted free agent, but they were still able to bring him back at a cheaper cost. The lowest tender the Ravens could've given Board would have cost $2.348 million. He has mostly been a special teams player for Baltimore, but he did see more playing time on defense in 2020. Board played in 264 snaps after playing just 78 defensive snaps in his first two years in the NFL. He started in two games last year and recorded 2.5 sacks, five QB hits and 31 combined tackles.
