The Detroit Lions have locked up kicker Matt Prater, signing him to a three-year, $11.4 million extension that will keep the Pro Bowler in Detroit through 2020. Prater has made 10-of-12 attempts so far this season, with three makes from 55 yards or further, an NFL single season record. Prater is one of the best long distance kickers in the NFL and as long as the Lions keep scoring points he will remain a starting fantasy kicker in all formats.

Lions kicker Matt Prater was the star for Detroit in their first loss of the season, a 30-26 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. Prater went 4/4 on field goals, including nailing both a 55-yarder and a 57-yarder. He also went 2-for-2 on extra points, making him responsible for 14 of the Lions points on the day. Prater has long been known for his big leg, and Sunday was proof that he still has it. With the Lions proving they can put points up, Prater is squarely a top kicker and should be owned and started each week.

Lions kicker Matt Prater was named NFC special teams player of the week. Prater nailed a 58-yard field goal and went 2-for-2 on extra points, while also punting four times after Lions starting punter Kasey Redfern went down with an injury. Don't expect Prater to punt anymore this season, but he should still serve as a top option at kicker going forward.
