Michael Bennett News
The Dallas Cowboys traded for defensive end Michael Bennett, formerly of the Patriots, sending a 2021 seventh-round pick to New England. There are escalators in the trade that could turn the pick into a sixth-round pick depending on Bennett's performance. It's could be a nice boost for the Cowboys Defense, although Bennett was struggling for consistent playing time in New England. In all likelihood, this trade won't move the needle much on either side.
The New England Patriots and defensive end Michael Bennett agreed to a reworked two-year deal on Tuesday with a base value of $16.75 million, including a $4 million signing bonus, according to sources. The move saves the Pats $700,000 in salary cap space this season. New England acquired Bennett from the Eagles this offseason in part to help fill the void left by Trey Flowers in free agency. The 33-year-old can still be effective in doses rushing the passer and had 34 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles in 16 games in his lone season with Philly in 2018.
The New England Patriots are working on a trade to acquire Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. New England will send a 2020 fifth-round pick to the Eagles for Bennett and a 2020 seventh-round selection. Bennett will make $7.2 million in 2019 and $8 million in 2020. The 33-year-old had nine sacks, 34 tackles, 22 quarterback hits and 44 pressures, including the playoffs, in his one and only season in Philly, and he'll help fill the void with Trey Flowers expected to receive a huge deal on the free-agent market.
