New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has not reported to voluntary workouts this offseason, according to general manager Joe Douglas. The team has reportedly been trying to trade the former No. 2 overall pick, but trade talks have been at a standstill. With Tyrod Taylor backing up Aaron Rodgers this season, the Wilson project is likely over in New York. The 24-year-old has completed 57% of his passes for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions through his first 34 NFL games. A change of scenery would likely be a positive thing for the young signal-caller and the organization, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
New York Jets offensive lineman Alija Vera-Tucker's fifth-year option decision is likely to come after the 2024 NFL draft, according to general manager Joe Douglas. "We haven't talked about that yet, we have a little time after the draft," Douglas said. "I'll definitely update you guys on that post-draft." It's not a surprise, and it won't be a surprise if the Jets don't pick up the 24-year-old guard's option after he suffered season-ending injuries in each of the last two years. The former 14th overall pick in 2021 out of USC played in a career-low five games in 2023 due to a torn Achilles that landed him on Injured Reserve early in the year. It remains to be seen how effective Vera-Tucker will be in 2024 coming off the major Achilles injury. Joe Tippmann took over as the Jets' starter at right guard last year with Vera-Tucker out.
Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis (ankle) is visiting with the New York Jets on Monday. The 23-year-old fractured and dislocated his left ankle on Nov. 18, yet he still finished fifth in the 2023 Heisman Trophy voting. Travis threw for over 8,000 yards and 66 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in his 49 college games, so he has plenty of experience to be at least a quality backup in the NFL. The Jets have Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) and Tyrod Taylor on the roster, but with Rodgers set to turn 41 years old at the end of next season, the organization could start to throw darts at the quarterback position in the later round of the next few drafts. Travis has been back on the field in the days leading up to this year's draft.
Georgia tight end Brock Bowers will be in Florham Park on Monday on an official visit with the New York Jets. The 6-foot-3, 243-pounder would give quarterback Aaron Rodgers yet another intriguing weapon in 2024 if the Jets were to select Bowers in the upcoming NFL draft. Bowers was a three-time first-team All American in his three years with the Bulldogs while leading Georgia in receiving all three years. He's easily regarded as the best tight end in this year's class and could come off the board as early as 10th overall in the first round to the Jets. In his three years at Georgia, Bowers caught 175 passes for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns. He could be fantasy relevant immediately in his first year in the NFL, but if he lands with the Jets, he'll have a lot of competition for targets.
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), who is coming off a torn left Achilles suffered in the season opener in 2023, was present for Day 1 of the team's voluntary offseason workouts on Monday. Despite being 40 years old and coming off a pretty serious injury that knocked him out for all of last year, the future Hall of Famer is hoping to play multiple more seasons. Rodgers was able to return to practices late last season, so barring some sort of setback this offseason or in training camp this summer, Rodgers will be ready to go for Week 1 of the 2024 regular season. He has plenty of weapons around him in New York's offense, but it's fair to wonder how an aging signal-caller will do coming off a lost season. At best, fantasy managers should treat him as a low-end QB1 injury risk in drafts this fall.
