Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle) said he feels very good health-wise after he missed the team's playoff lost against the Kansas City Chiefs due to an ankle injury. All signs point to Bernard being fully ready for training camp this summer and for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall. The 24-year-old was second in overall IDP fantasy points at the linebacker position in 2023, behind only Atlanta Falcons linebacker Foyesade Oluokun. In 17 regular-season games, Bernard racked up a career-high 143 tackles (84 solo), a career-high 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, nine QB hits, three interceptions, five passes defended and three fumble recoveries. As long as he's healthy in 2024, Bernard is going to be in play as a weekly starting linebacker in IDP formats.
The Buffalo Bills are hosting Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin for a visit. Franklin is drawing a ton of interest after posting elite numbers during his final year at Oregon. He totaled 1,383 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns on 81 receptions. Franklin has already visited with the Browns, Jets, Panthers, and Patriots this offseason. The Bills are dangerously thin at wideout after losing their two top receivers. Franklin doesn't project as a superstar in the league, but could certainly make some noise in Buffalo, assuming they decide to draft him.
The Buffalo Bills are signing veteran offensive tackle La'El Collins to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. Collins was initially viewed as a top-ten prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft class, but off-the-field noise led to him being undrafted and signing with the Dallas Cowboys following the seventh round. He started in 71 games from 2015 to 2021 with America's Team before making 15 starts for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. The 30-year-old missed the entire 2023 season after a late-season ACL and MCL tear the year prior. Buffalo has parted ways with several key veteran contributors this offseason, so they'll likely be in the market for inexpensive veteran starters or depth pieces moving forward. Collins will compete for a starting role on the offensive line in 2024.
The Buffalo Bills signed free-agent defensive tackle DeShawn Williams to an undisclosed one-year deal on Thursday. Williams will give the Bills continued depth for their defensive tackle room that went into free agency with just Ed Oliver and Eli Ankou under contract. The 31-year-old Williams played in 16 games (10 starts) for the Carolina Panthers last year and finished with 33 tackles (13 solo) and seven QB hits. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016 with the Cincinnati Bengals out of Clemson, and the Bills will be the fourth different team he's played for in six seasons. In total, Williams has racked up 148 tackles (72 solo), nine sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 30 QB hits, one interception and nine passes defended in 66 games (44 starts). Williams will be off the IDP fantasy radar.
The Buffalo Bills cut center Mitch Morse this offseason after he had spent five seasons with the team, but general manager Brandon Beane said on Sunday that the team knew offensive lineman Connor McGovern, who played left guard in 2023, would be capable of taking over as the starter at center if necessary. If the 26-year-old ends up winning the starting center job in training camp this summer, the Bills' plan will likely be to move David Edwards into the left-guard role that McGovern filled last season. The former third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 out of Penn State started all 17 regular-season games for the Bills in 2023 after spending the first three years of his NFL career in Dallas.
