Adam Gase News
New York Jets chief executive officer Christopher Johnson said that head coach Adam Gase will return next season despite a current 2-7 record. "I want to assure you there will be no changes in coaches here," Johnson said in an opening statement to reporters. "Adam has the trust of this team. He has the trust of Sam [Darnold]. He has Joe [Douglas'] trust. He has my trust. He's a good man, he's a good coach." Gase has led a very poor offense so far in 2019, with both quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Le'Veon Bell having extremely frustrating seasons. The Jets, however, have a chance to win two in a row in Week 11 in a good matchup with the Redskins.
The New York Jets are hiring former Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase on Wednesday to be their next head coach. Gase is best known for coaching Peyton Manning to a record-setting year in Denver, but he pretty much flopped in his time with Miami and wasn't able to get quarterback Ryan Tannehill over the hump in a stagnant and very mediocre offense. He went 23-25 in his three years as the head man with the Dolphins. The hope is that he can continue to develop Sam Darnold moving forward, but the Jets will need to add playmakers around him, and they will certainly have the salary cap space to do so this offseason.
The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Adam Gase after three seasons on Monday, according to a source. The team also promoted general manager Chris Grier to oversee football operations and reassigned Mike Tannenbaum, who was previously vice president of football operations. Gase didn't help his cause in the 42-17 Week 17 loss to the Bills. Gase finished 23-25 in his three years, with Miami's offense near the bottom of the league every year. Miami seems to be set on a rebuild in order to get younger. The Dolphins have already requested interviews with Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio for the vacancy. The biggest question for Miami moving forward is whether to stick with quarterback Ryan Tannehill. They also need to get Kenyan Drake more involved in the backfield and upgrade their receiving corps.
