But the acquisition of Barnes is a step in the right direction for the Cardinals defense, a squad that needed an off-ball linebacker.
Free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. remains unsigned after holding a private workout at the beginning of March. While several teams have reportedly expressed interest, with the Jets, Giants, and Bills rumored to be in the hunt, it appears the Chiefs haven't ruled out adding the wideout, either. "Odell is a good football player," stated head coach Andy Reid, who responded to a question from NFL Network's Steve Wyche during an interview on Saturday morning. "Yeah, he does a nice job. So, we'll see how all that goes." Beckham has totaled 531 catches for 7,367 yards and 56 touchdowns throughout his career. He spent his most recent season with the Rams. But he tore his ACL in Super Bowl LVI and hasn't played since. Nevertheless, this won't be the last we hear about Beckham moving ahead. However, Kansas City could be an ideal landing spot for the 30-year-old, considering the team lost JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman to free agency.
Free-agent offensive lineman Kyle Fuller has agreed to a deal with the Broncos. The 29-year-old has bounced around the league since being taken in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft, making stops in Houston, Washington, and Miami before landing in Seattle. He played the last three seasons with the Seahawks, including two with quarterback Russell Wilson. It's no secret the Broncos offensive line was a disaster during the 2022-23 campaign. While the acquisition isn't as significant as some of the other moves the team has made to improve the line, Fuller's presence provides much-needed depth, which is good news for Wilson.
Free-agent linebacker Bobby Wagner agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with Seattle on Saturday. The 2012 second-round pick spent his entire career with the Seahawks before his release in March 2022. He then inked a lucrative multi-year agreement with the Rams. However, his tenure in Los Angeles would be short-lived, with both sides mutually parting ways after only one season. But now, he'll return to the Seahawks, a team committed to improving things on the defensive end. Wagner, who has 1,523 total tackles, 29.5 sacks, and 13 interceptions on his resume, is an eight-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro. Without a doubt, the 32-year-old will be welcomed back with open arms, and his presence should make the Seahawks defense more attractive to fantasy managers.
According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, tight end Zach Gentry will remain with the Steelers. Gentry, a 2019 fifth-round pick, has appeared in 38 games for Pittsburgh in the last four seasons, compiling 39 catches for 303 yards. While the Steelers will get a familiar face back in the mix, his minimal statistical contributions over the years won't mean much from a fantasy standpoint. Gentry's return also won't negatively impact Pat Freiermuth, who should continue to operate as the undisputed No. 1 tight end on the depth chart.
Free-agent defensive end Calais Campbell has upcoming visits with the Bills and Jets. The veteran, who was released by the Ravens this offseason in a cost-cutting move, has already made stops in Atlanta and Jacksonville as he looks to continue his career in the National Football League. He finished last season with 36 total tackles and a respectable 5.5 sacks in 14 appearances. However, he's battled injuries over the years and seen a decline in production. While Campbell's best days are likely behind him, he may have a few more potent performances left in the tank and should provide value to any defensive squad during the 2023-24 campaign.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Cardinals are looking for a "Christian McCaffrey package" for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. In October, the Panthers received a 2023 second, third, and fourth-round pick (and a 2024 fifth-round selection) from San Francisco for McCaffrey. However, factoring in Hopkins' age and hefty salary, getting a similar deal in return may prove difficult for the rebuilding Cardinals. That said, Hopkins has been one of the league's most productive wideouts during his career, amassing 853 catches for 11,298 yards and 71 touchdowns, so he will naturally draw interest from teams needing to fill a void on offense. But also considering the All-Pro appeared in just 19 games over the last two seasons because of injuries and a suspension, resulting in a decline in production, it will be interesting to see if any club is willing to adhere to Arizona's rumored demand.
The Dolphins have re-signed cornerback Justin Bethel, the team announced on Friday. The 32-year-old has totaled 263 tackles, nine forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and five picks in 176 games. However, he's been the most potent on special teams during his career, earning three Pro Bowl trips because of his success in that area. That said, his individual statistical contributions should remain limited, so IDP managers won't benefit much by adding him to the roster.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Bengals "are looming large" regarding a potential deal with free-agent running back Ezekiel Elliott. Cincinnati is looking to bolster its backfield, so adding the former Buckeye could be on the radar. However, it's still unknown if the Bengals plan on retaining Joe Mixon, although the team could save roughly $8 million against the cap by cutting ties with him. It's no secret the franchise wants to keep Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins moving forward. As a result, adding Elliott may be a logical approach, especially if things align from a fiscal sense. But it could also signal the end of Mixon's career in Cincinnati.
The Panthers traded kicker Zane Gonzalez to the 49ers on Friday. Carolina had initially announced it would be releasing the veteran. Instead, he'll now be heading west, with San Francisco filling a void on offense. Gonzalez has made just 80.5% of his field goal tries during his career, so he hasn't been the most efficient kicker. The 27-year-old also missed the entire 2022 campaign because of a groin injury suffered in the preseason. That said, it's unlikely Gonzalez will draw much interest from fantasy managers this season, although that could change if he turns things around and stays healthy.
