Jason Garrett News
The Dallas Cowboys have finally officially fired coach Jason Garrett. Expected since the end of another 8-8 season, Jerry Jones and company waited until the middle of the Eagles playoff game to make it official. Coincidence? The Cowboys will enter the coaching carousel a bit late, as other teams have already started coaching interviews. The Cowboys are expected to hire someone with NFL experience, but you never know what Jerry Jones will do.
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to move on from long-time head coach Jason Garrett in the event they are eliminated from playoff contention in Week 17. If Garrett is fired, Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley, Baylor head coach Matt Rhule and former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera are expected to be candidates in Dallas. Garrett has been with the Cowboys since 2010 and has an 84-67 overall record heading into Week 17 against the Redskins. Dallas has been underachieving this year and for most of Garrett's time at the helm. They've gone 2-3 in the playoffs under Garrett and have failed to make a Super Bowl appearance.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is sticking with head coach Jason Garrett despite the team losing four of their last five games. "This is not the time for me [to make a coaching change]," Jones said. "I'm looking ahead at another ballgame. I'm looking ahead at winning four or five straight and helping write a story they will talk about, how it looks like you're down and out." Despite a 6-6 record, the Cowboys will remain in first place after Week 13 is done, even if the Eagles beat the Dolphins this Sunday. Garrett is firmly on the hot seat, though, and things won't get a whole lot easier next Thursday against the Bears and their solid defense.
