Alejandro Villanueva News
Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva has decided to retire from the NFL after a seven-year career. Villanueva started his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015 and played with them for six seasons before joining the Ravens last year. He made the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2018. Villanueva's decision to hang up his cleats should clear $6 million in salary cap space for the 2022 season. If he didn't decide to retire, the Ravens were prepared to release him after he filled in for Ronnie Stanley at left tackle last season. Amazingly, the 33-year-old didn't miss a single game in his career.
The Baltimore Ravens signed free-agent veteran left tackle Alejandro Villanueva to a two-year, $14 million deal on Tuesday, according to a source. The deal includes $8 million fully guaranteed. The former Pittsburgh Steeler will stay in the AFC North and join Pittsburgh's division rivals. The 6-foot-9, 320-pounder will likely slide in at right tackle in Baltimore to help replace Orlando Brown Jr., who was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. The 32-year-old Villanueva has been dominant in his career in pass protection and is also adequate in the running game, a staple of Baltimore's offense. The two-time Pro Bowler will surely be an upgrade to the Ravens offensive line after they traded away Brown.
