Trey Hopkins News
The Cincinnati Bengals cut center Trey Hopkins on Friday. Hopkins was one of the worst starting centers last year and contributed to the team's poor offensive line play in front of quarterback Joe Burrow. He allowed four sacks and 20 QB pressures while making 15 starts in 2021. The 29-year-old offensive lineman entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas and has spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Bengals. It's unclear if Hopkins will land a starting gig with another team on the open market after his poor play a season ago.
Cincinnati Bengals center Trey Hopkins (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the Week 17 loss to the Ravens and will require surgery, according to head coach Zac Taylor. Hopkins has started all but one game in the last two seasons and also played a full 16 games in 2018. The 28-year-old from Texas will have all offseason to recover and rehab from his torn knee ligament, but he might not be ready for training camp and the preseason, depending on how his recovery goes.
The Cincinnati Bengals signed center Trey Hopkins to a three-year, $20.4 million extension on Saturday, according to a source. Hopkins will receive $4.5 million in a guaranteed roster bonus and will make $8.95 million in 2020 and $14.4 million after Year 2. Hopkins was a steady presence for a Bengals offensive line that was extremely shaky outside of him in 2019. The Bengals are locked into the No. 1 overall pick next season and there's a good chance they'll select Louisiana State quarterback Joe Burrow with that pick. Hopkins will be a good centerpiece for the Bengals offensive line moving forward whether they go with Burrow or not.
