Anthony Harris News
The Philadelphia Eagles signed veteran safety Anthony Harris to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday, according to his agents. Harris didn't rack up any stats while playing only special teams for the Denver Broncos in three games this year before being waived last week. The 31-year-old was with the Eagles in 2021 and was also with them this preseason before joining Denver. In 14 starts for Philly last year, Harris recorded 72 tackles (36 solo), an interception and three passes defensed. Harris will provide the Eagles with additional secondary help with C.J. Gardner-Johnson (kidney) on Injured Reserve and Reed Blankenship (knee) getting injured in the Week 14 win over the New York Giants.
The Denver Broncos released veteran safety Anthony Harris on Tuesday, according to a source. Harris gets the axe in his first season with Denver after just three games played. The 31-year-old played only 43 total defensive snaps in his three games and failed to record any tackles, mostly playing on special teams. Harris spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, and he's racked up 356 tackles (221 solo), 10 interceptions (one for a touchdown), 31 passes defensed, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries in 98 career games (61 starts). He'll look for work elsewhere to close out the 2022 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles re-signed strong safety Anthony Harris to a one-year deal on Friday, according to a source. ESPN reported that he will receive $2.5 million this year. Harris is the former Minnesota Vikings franchise player that spent the first six seasons of his NFL career in Minnesota. The 30-year-old had 72 tackles (36 solo), one interception and three passes defensed in 14 starts in his first year with Philadelphia in 2021. With Harris returning for another year in Philadelphia, it's unlikely that free safety Rodney McLeod will be back. Harris had a career-high 104 tackles (58 solo) in his final season with the Vikings and a career-high six interceptions (one for a touchdown) in 2019.
