John Ross News
The Kansas City Chiefs placed wide receiver John Ross on the Reserve/Retired list on Wednesday, according to the league's transaction wire. Ross is the record-holder for the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine at 4.22 seconds. He was the ninth overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 out of Washington, but he ended up being a bust in the NFL. The 27-year-old had just 51 catches on 123 targets for 733 yards and 10 touchdowns in 27 games (20 starts) in his four seasons with the Bengals. In 10 games (one start) for the New York Giants in 2021, Ross caught 11 passes for 224 yards and one score.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed wide receiver John Ross to a Reserve/Futures deal on Monday, according to a source. The Chiefs now have the ninth and 10th picks from the 2017 NFL draft with their franchise in Ross and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ross did not play in the NFL at all during the 2022 season after missing the final four games of 2021 with a knee injury while with the New York Giants. The 27-year-old speedster has been unable to stay healthy for a full season in five NFL seasons, but the Chiefs will take a flier on him. In 37 career games (21 starts), Ross has piled up 62 receptions on 143 targets for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals and Giants.
New York Giants wide receivers Kadarius Toney (shoulder), John Ross (knee) and Collin Johnson (hamstring) have been ruled out for Week 17 against the Chicago Bears. Darius Slayton was put on the Reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week and Sterling Shepard, C.J. Board and Dante Pettis are on Injured Reserve, so Kenny Golladay is the only healthy receiver on the team's active roster. New York has rookie Travis Toivonen, Pharoh Cooper, Alex Bachman and David Sills V on their practice squad. The Giants receiving corps has been comically banged up all year, but this is the worst it's been all season. Golladay and tight ends Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph should see expanded roles, but New York's offense has been absolutely unwatchable with quarterbacks Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm taking over in recent weeks.
