Mason Rudolph Shaky In Preseason Start Thursday

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph struggled in his preseason start against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. Playing all of the first half, Rudolph completed just 5-of-12 passes for 47 yards. He did throw a four-yard touchdown to Juju Smith-Schuster but he also threw a pick-six on his very first pass attempt of the game. Rudolph looked very much like a rookie in the outing, holding onto the ball too long and taking three sacks as a result. According to head coach Mike Tomlin, Rudolph and the entire offense played too tentatively in the contest. Rudolph is fighting to be the team's backup quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger this season.

Josh Dobbs, Mason Rudolph Will Play Exclusively Thursday

The Pittsburgh Steelers will give their young quarterbacks a chance to show what they can do in the team's second preseason game on Thursday. Pittsburgh will allow second-year quarterback Josh Dobbs and rookie signal-caller Mason Rudolph to play exclusively against the Green Bay Packers while veterans Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones watch from the sidelines. Head coach Mike Tomlin hasn't exactly detailed how playing time will be divided up but it would make sense for each player to play close to an entire half of football. Both players are in play as possible options for preseason DFS contests.

Mason Rudolph Could Push For Backup Job

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph has performed well in offseason team practices. According to reports, the rookie has performed better than any Pittsburgh rookie quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger. So well, in fact, that many associated with the team believe he could make a serious push to become the team's backup quarterback behind Roethlisberger. Landry Jones has been the Steelers' backup quarterback for several years but he has shown to be below-average as an NFL talent. Rudolph doesn't have much of a chance to start for the team until Big Ben retires but he is a name to keep an eye on in deep, two-quarterback dynasty formats.
