Jalen Hurd News
The New England Patriots placed wide receiver Jalen Hurd on the Reserve/Retired list on Tuesday. Hurd didn't make it too far into training camp this summer before deciding that he didn't want to play professional football anymore. The 27-year-old's career was defined by injuries after the San Francisco 49ers drafted him in the third round in 2019 out of Baylor. Believe it or not, he never made it onto the field for a single game in the NFL. Hurd got off to a bad start in his rookie campaign when he suffered a back injury that kept him out all year before tearing his ACL before the 2022 season. It's a shame that Hurd was never able to showcase his quickness on an NFL field.
Wide receiver Jalen Hurd signed with the New England Patriots after impressing at a workout for free agents. Hurd, a former five-star recruit who played running back and wide receiver for the Tennessee Volunteers and Baylor Bears, was drafted in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. Unfortunately, he never had a chance to prove himself, as injuries caused him to miss each of his first three seasons. The 49ers released him in November 2021 after he suffered a preseason knee injury, and he didn't play in 2022. Hurd has the size and speed to be a playmaker if he can make the Patriots' final roster and stay healthy. The 230-pounder set a Tennessee state high school record for rushing yards, and he gained 4,282 yards from scrimmage in four years of Power Five college football.
The San Francisco 49ers waived wide receiver Jalen Hurd (knee) on Thursday with an injury designation and signed offensive lineman Corbin Kaufusi and cornerback Saivion Smith to the practice squad in corresponding moves. Hurd was put on Injured Reserve on Sept. 11. The 25-year-old former third-round pick never made it on the field for the Niners in a regular season game due to various injuries along the way. Hurd suffered a setback after having surgery for a torn ACL in the preseason and wasn't available for the start of the 2021 season. The 49ers weren't expecting Hurd to contribute at all this year, so he'll hope to get healthy before attempting to latch on with another organization.
