Connor McGovern News
The Buffalo Bills cut center Mitch Morse this offseason after he had spent five seasons with the team, but general manager Brandon Beane said on Sunday that the team knew offensive lineman Connor McGovern, who played left guard in 2023, would be capable of taking over as the starter at center if necessary. If the 26-year-old ends up winning the starting center job in training camp this summer, the Bills' plan will likely be to move David Edwards into the left-guard role that McGovern filled last season. The former third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 out of Penn State started all 17 regular-season games for the Bills in 2023 after spending the first three years of his NFL career in Dallas.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that offensive guard Connor McGovern (knee) would not practice on Thursday at training camp after he injured his knee in Wednesday's practice. McDermott didn't give any timeline for McGovern's return. For now, McGovern should be considered day-to-day, but his availability for the Week 1 regular season opener could be in question. When healthy, the 25-year-old offensive lineman is expected to be Buffalo's starting left guard. In his first three NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after they took him in the third round in 2019 out of Penn State, McGovern played in 45 games and made 29 starts.
The Buffalo Bills agreed to terms with free-agent offensive guard Connor McGovern on a three-year, $23 million deal on Monday, according to a source. The former third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 is on the move in free agency. In his three years in Dallas to begin his career, McGovern played in 45 games and made 29 starts. The 25-year-old should be able to earn a starting guard spot on the Bills' offensive line in training camp this summer. He made a career-high 15 starts for the Cowboys in 2022 after starting 14 games in his first two seasons combined.
