Drew Stanton News
The Cleveland Browns and quarterback Drew Stanton agreed to a two-year deal worth $6.5 million on Sunday. Stanton is expected to serve as a backup for Tyrod Taylor in the 2018 season. The team is fully expected to use an early draft pick on a rookie quarterback in the NFL draft in April, which could make third-year signal-caller Cody Kessler expendable. According to a report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Browns are expected to begin shopping Kessler. Kessler started eight games for Cleveland in 2016 but didn't show much improvement in his 2017 season. The Browns are unlikely to get much in return in a Kessler trade.
Free agent quarterback Drew Stanton signed to a two-year contract with the Browns. Stanton's agent first reported the deal by congratulating his client on social media. Stanton joins a crowded quarterback committee that now consists of the recently acquired Tyrod Taylor, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan. It is likely Kessler or Hogan do not make it out of camp with Cleveland considering the Browns are fully expected to add another quarterback to their roster via the No. 1 or No. 4 pick in April's draft.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton(knee) played the final two games of the 2017 season with a torn ACL. The fact that Stanton is an impending free agent and managed to play through his injury should help him get noticed by teams in search of a quarterback in this upcoming free-agency period. Stanton ended the season as a low-end QB2 option and is unlikely to land anything more than a backup job on the open market. The good news is that he's not expected to need surgery on his knee.
