Jake Allen News
New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen will make his debut for the team on Thursday against the Dallas Stars. Allen was acquired before the trade deadline last week to help the Devils with their goaltending woes. Unfortunately, Allen is sporting some ugly numbers himself, with an .892 SV%, 3.65 GAA, and -8.0 GSAA. The move from Montreal to New Jersey might help, but the latter hasn't been defensively sound this year either. The 33-year-old is a desperation option in fantasy and should only be used given a good matchup, which this is not.
New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen will make his team debut Thursday versus the Dallas Stars. The veteran netminder was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens prior to the March 8 NHL trade deadline but was unable to play until this point due to visa issues. "He's a veteran guy," Devils coach Travis Green said. "A good goalie in the league for a while now ... I'm looking forward to getting Jake in the net and get him up and running as quick as possible." The 33-year-old has struggled in recent seasons on some poor Habs teams, working to a 3.65 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage across 21 games this season. He was part of a three-goalie tandem in Montreal alongside Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.
The New Jersey Devils have acquired goaltender Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can turn into a second-rounder based on Allen's games played with the Devils. The Canadiens are retaining 50% of Allen's $3.85 cap hit, a hit that runs through next season. Allen has struggled over the last two seasons, most recently posting a 3.65 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage across 21 starts, going 6-12-3 in that time. He was part of a three-goalie tandem with Montreal alongside Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau but could take over the No. 1 role with a Devils team that has received a 31st-ranked .883 Sv% from their goaltenders this season.
Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen is the starting goaltender for Monday's game against the visiting Colorado Avalanche. It's just the second start of the New Year for Allen after he yielded five goals in a 6-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Jan. 4. For the season, the veteran sports a 3.52 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage across just 14 outings, going 4-8-2 in that time. As a result of the poor play, the bulk of starts have been going to Sam Montembeault who has out-performed Allen with a 2.89 GAA and a .909 Sv% across 20 appearances (19 starts). It's a tall task on Monday night for Allen against a dangerous Avalanche offense that sits second in the NHL while averaging 3.67 goals per game.
