Ethan Bear News
Washington Capitals defenseman Ethan Bear has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. The 26-year-old will be out of action indefinitely. Bear, who signed a two-year, $4.125 million contract with the Capitals in late December, last featured for the team on March 13. He has made 24 total appearances, recording one goal and four points with 24 shots on goal, 16 hits, and 31 blocks. Bear is already the fifth player to enter the assistance program this season, following his former Washington teammate Evgeny Kuznetsov, Columbus' Patrik Laine, and Colorado's duo of Samuel Girard and Valeri Nichushkin.
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ethan Bear will be out for six months after having shoulder surgery. The 25-year-old needed to get the procedure done after getting hurt at the 2023 IIHF World Championship. The injury means that Bear will miss a large chunk of next season. Bear is a restricted free agent this offseason after finishing a one-year, $2.2 million contract he signed with Carolina last summer. Bear ended up being a healthy scratch for the Hurricanes at the start of the season and moved to Vancouver in late October. He had a decent campaign on a struggling team, posting 16 points with 82 blocks and a plus-six rating in 61 games.
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ethan Bear (upper body) has been moved to Injured Reserve after he was hurt in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Boston. The 25-year-old dropped out of the game after just 17 seconds of action. Noah Juulsen has been called up from the minors to fill the gap in the lineup. Bear has skated in 46 games for Vancouver this season and has 14 points for the year. He entered Saturday's matchup with a three-game assist streak and has been logging major minutes on the first defensive pairing, so Bear's injury is another painful blow for the Canucks during a miserable campaign.
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ethan Bear was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday along with depth forward Lane Pederson. The Hurricanes received a 2023 fifth-round draft pick and Carolina is retaining 18 percent of Bear's $2.2 million salary as part of the deal. Bear has been a healthy scratch for every game this season and Vancouver needed to bolster its blue line following a string of injuries, so it's a trade that should benefit all parties involved. Bear saw some success in the NHL a couple of seasons back in Edmonton when he had 21 points in 71 games, but he's managed to add just 22 points to his tally since then in 101 outings. He likely won't be making an impact in fantasy hockey.
