Cale Makar News
Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar is a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against the Edmonton Oilers. The all-world blueliner is dealing with an illness, as is teammate Miles Wood. "We're hopeful," Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said. "Both those guys are under the weather. It's kind of rolling through our team right now, and some other teams. But we're hopeful that giving them a rest here this morning that both of those guys will be (playing)." Makar is enjoying another Norris Trophy-caliber season, recording 17 goals and 63 points on 188 shots and 115 blocked shots across 62 games, averaging 24:56 of ice time per game in the process. The Avs sit second in the Central Division with a 42-20-5 record.
Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar scored his first career hat trick and added an assist as the team picked apart Detroit 7-2 on Wednesday. Makar posted two points on the power play. It's his fourth career four-point outing with the Avalanche, which puts him tied with Sandis Ozolinsh for most among defensemen in franchise history. Makar had an ugly seven-game dry spell last month, but he's hit form again in impressive style, posting three multi-point outings in four games. The scoring surge has pushed him to 70 points for the year, with 17 goals and 53 assists registered across 59 contests.
Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar (lower body) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's clash with the Senators. A lower-body injury has kept Makar out of action for three games, but it looks like he could be back on Thursday. It's been business as usual for Makar in 2023-24 as one of the premier blue-liners in the league, as he's bagged 37 points (eight goals, 29 assists) across 27 outings. Despite missing some time, Makar remains the second-highest scoring defenseman in the league, behind only Vancouver's Quinn Hughes (41). His return is set to bump Devon Toews down from the first power-play unit.
Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar (lower body) didn't skate Tuesday morning and will be out against the Chicago Blackhawks. This will be the third game Makar has missed with what was called a "nagging" lower-body injury. Although it doesn't sound serious, the Avs have taken a cautious approach with their stud blueliner. Makar has 37 points (eight goals, 29 assists) in 27 games this season as he roars toward another potential Norris trophy campaign. His next chance to return will be Thursday against Ottawa.
