Connor Clifton News
Buffalo Sabres defenseman Connor Clifton has received a two-game suspension for his actions in Friday's 5-4 loss to New Jersey. The former Bruin was handed a match penalty in the first period for a hit to the head of Devils star Nico Hischier. Clifton, who signed a three-year deal as a free agent with the Sabres in the offseason, will be eligible to return to action on Nov. 3 versus Philadelphia. The 28-year-old has been skating on the third defensive pairing with Erik Johnson. Clifton's debut campaign in Buffalo hasn't gone too well, with him having a minus-six rating through eight outings and only one point. Jacob Bryson is set to enter the lineup as Clifton's replacement.
Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin is very happy that Connor Clifton is now his teammate, not a pesky opponent. "On the ice, you see his toughness," Dahlin said of Clifton. "I remember playing him in Boston. I was scared of him. I hated to play against him." Clifton likes the physical part of the game a lot, having led the Bruins with 208 hits last season. His defensive stats could be set for a further boost in Buffalo, as Clifton has worked as Dahlin's partner in training camp and should see more ice time with his new team.
Boston Bruins winger Nick Foligno (upper body) and defenseman Connor Clifton won't play on Friday against the Sabres. Foligno got injured in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Philadelphia and is day-to-day, while it looks like Clifton will simply be scratched for the game. At least there aren't any injury reports regarding the 26-year-old blueliner, who's gone pointless so far this season with three shots, five hits, one block and a minus-two rating. John Moore will replace him in the lineup. Foligno's spot on the third line went to Tomas Nosek in Thursday's practice, however, there could be some extra maneuvering within the lineup after Craig Smith took a maintenance day and missed practice. He likely won't miss any game time.
Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller will be back in action on Friday versus the Sabres, replacing Connor Clifton in the lineup. The 33-year-old missed five games with a foot infection. Miller will skate on the second defensive pairing with Mike Reilly, who's made a productive start in Boston with four points in six games. The veteran blueliner has been on a load management schedule throughout the season due to a surgically repaired right knee, appearing in only 19 games. Miller has posted two points -- both assists - with 15 shots and a minus-one rating.
