Andrés Giménez News
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went yard for the third time this season in Sunday's win over the division-rival Minnesota Twins, also drawing a walk in the victory. Gimenez took Twins right-hander Chris Paddack deep to plate Tyler Freeman in the first inning, later walking and scoring a run in the ninth frame. The 25-year-old former All-Star is on a prolific run during his current seven-game hitting streak, batting a torrid .464 (13-for-28) with two home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored, and two stolen bases over this hot stretch as Cleveland's everyday No. 2 hitter. Up next for Gimenez is a three-game series starting on Monday against the New York Mets, the team that traded him away back in 2021. Last season, he went hitless in eight at-bats against the Mets.
Cleveland Guardians catcher Bo Naylor and second baseman Andres Gimenez are both out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Chicago White Sox. Gabriel Arias will fill in at the keystone for Gimenez and bat eighth, while Austin Hedges is doing the catching and is batting in the nine-hole against White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. Neither Arias nor Hedges should be much of a consideration in DFS for Friday's lineups. Naylor is off to a slow start, unlike his brother, in 2024, as he's hitting just .189/.280/.295 with three home runs and nine RBI in his first 30 games. Gimenez is slashing .248/.316/.333 with one long ball, 19 RBI, five stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 141 at-bats as Cleveland's regular second baseman. Both Naylor and Gimenez should be back in action on Saturday.
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is back in the Guardians lineup and hitting second for Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. Gimenez was out on Friday against Braves' southpaw Chris Sale but gets a matchup today against Charlie Morton. The lefty has never faced Morton in his career. He's hitting for a fairly average .664 OPS but has been hitting better on the road, increasing his OPS to .785 away from Progressive Field. Charlie Morton has fared much worse against lefties in 2024, putting Gimenez in a favorable matchup. Those looking for an option in DFS formats may want to entertain adding the Guardians' lefty into their lineup on Saturday night.

After wRC+ seasons of 105 and 76, few saw a 142 wRC+ season coming in 2022 for Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez. Unfortunately, Gimenez came back to Earth in 2023, disappointing managers who invested hoping for a repeat campaign. Looking back, 2022's stats were likely bolstered by a .353 BABIP. His actual BA of .297 with an xBA of .257 corroborates this. His final 2023 line was .251-15-62-76-30 with a .309 WOBA and 97 wRC+. Expect Gimenez to bounce back in 2024, but other than his 93rd-percentile sprint speed, his offensive metrics don't indicate a return to his 2022 breakout. The former All-Star's Contact% has increased in consecutive years, but it was still just 77.1% in 2023, barely above league average. His SwStr% has dropped in consecutive years also, but still worse than league average at 12.4%, while his O-Swing% was one of the worst in the entire league at 42.7%. ATC projections have WOBA and wRC+ increasing to .327 and 110 respectively in 2024, but the counting stats don't promise much of a change from last season, with a .264-17-66-74-26 line. He's fairly priced as far as second basemen go, and his 117 NFBC ADP is nearly identical to his 116 rank at RotoBaller.
