Carlton Davis News
The Detroit Lions are acquiring cornerback Carlton Davis from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, according to a source. It's unclear what the compensation is for the Buccaneers. It didn't make sense for the Bucs to keep the injury-prone Davis around due to his bloated contract, but he should be a nice addition to a Lions secondary that was regularly dominated by opposing wide receivers in 2023. The 27-year-old Davis will need to stay healthy, though, as he played in just 12 games in 2023 and has never played in more than 14 games in a single season in his six years in the NFL. In his 12 regular-season starts last year, he had 52 tackles (40 solo), two interceptions and nine passes defensed. If healthy, Davis will be a starter at cornerback for Detroit this fall.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense will be missing cornerback Carlton Davis (groin) and defensive tackle Williams Gholston (ankle, knee) in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, as they've both been ruled out. Defensive tackle Vita Vea (toe) and free safety Ryan Neal (back) are also doubtful, and defensive back Jamel Dean (ankle, foot) and linebacker Devin White (foot) are questionable to play. It's a lot of notable injuries for a defense that hasn't really been on the fantasy radar at all in 2023, ranking 17th among all defenses this year in total points. They're facing a young, inexperienced and beat up Packer offense this weekend, but the Bucs D/ST isn't a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis III (hip) won't return to Sunday's game against the 49ers. The Bucs defense already had their work cut out for them versus a high-powered San Francisco offense. However, the team also lost LaVonte David (groin) and Jamel Dean (ankle/foot), making things even more difficult. Nonetheless, it's tough to say if Davis, who had just one tackle in this one, will play in Week 12 versus the Colts. But he'll likely appear on the injury report throughout the week, with more updates likely to come in the next day or two.
