Dansby Swanson News
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson (knee) continued to ramp up his activity ahead of Thursday's game against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field, including fielding ground balls. After a period of rest, recovery, and treatment, Swanson did some light running and agility work and played catch before Wednesday's series finale against the Atlanta Braves and seems to be progressing well in his recuperation from a sprained right knee. The 30-year-old star infielder is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list as early as Saturday's contest against Pittsburgh, though it's unclear if he'll need a brief minor-league rehab assignment before the Cubs activate him. Although Swanson was slashing a meager .209/.285/.341 with four home runs, 12 RBI, 20 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 37 games (129 at-bats) as Chicago's everyday shortstop before the injury, he's a must-stash player in all fantasy leagues.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson (knee) has been placed on the injured list ahead of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The veteran infielder sat out of Wednesday's game due to knee soreness. It sounds like Swanson has been dealing with a lingering knee issue for quite some time. The team has decided to place him on the injured list and give him some time to recover. Nico Hoerner figures to see more time at shortstop while Nick Madrigal and Miles Miles Mastrobuoni get some action at second base.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson (knee) "tweaked something in his right knee (and) has been bugging him a little bit," according to manager Craig Counsell, which is why Swanson is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting San Diego Padres. Counsell said Swanson hurt his knee on a slide in the game on April 25 against the Houston Astros. With a scheduled off day on Thursday, the Cubs are hoping to get Swanson back for the series opener on Friday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Check back to see if the 30-year-old Swanson is back in there on Friday. With him resting on Wednesday, Nico Hoerner is starting at the 6 and batting leadoff, while Miles Mastrobuoni will play second and hit seventh against Padres right-hander Dylan Cease.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson has produced at least 22 HR, 80 RBI, 78 R, and 9 SB each of the past three seasons, but has a career BA of just .253. His first season in Chicago saw him reduce his K% two full percentage points down to 24.1% while raising his BB% from 7.0% (below average) to 10.3% (above average). The former No.1-overall pick's below-average career Contact% of 74.0% results in cold spells at the plate, however, his chase rate (28.4% in 2023) is better than the league average. With 18 SB in 2022, 77th percentile sprint speed, and rule changes that made it easier to swipe bags, managers would have liked more SB in 2023, but instead saw a decline to just nine steals. Swanson's projections have him stealing more in 2024, but not to the level we saw in 2022. The 2x All-Star's ATC line is projected at .252-22-82-81-12 with a WOBA of .323 and wRC+ of 103. His NFBC ADP of 128 matches his RotoBaller rank of 128 overall. The 30-year-old should be a solid contributor with a reliable floor and a small amount of upside, but it seems he is what he is at this point in his career.
