Kodai Senga News
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (shoulder, triceps) was unable to do his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday. The right-hander is dealing with tightness in his triceps, so the team decided to skip the bullpen session. Senga is working his way back from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him all season. The Mets haven't given a solid timetable for when Senga is going to make it back to the mound, but they are hoping he'll get his next bullpen in by the end of the week, signaling that it isn't a serious setback. Fantasy managers must stay patient and keep the Japanese hurler stashed in all formats.
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said that right-hander Kodai Senga (shoulder) is getting closer to a return and being sent on a minor-league rehab assignment. "We all feel better about it here than we would have 5-6 days ago," Stearns said on Thursday. The front-office executive also said Senga had a good bullpen session recently where the Japanese hurler felt like he made some strides. There's no set date for when Senga will go on a rehab assignment, but that's the next step in his recovery after he took a step back recently in his rehab to deal with some mechanical issues. The 31-year-old looks to have moved past those issues and could be on the cusp of making his 2024 debut, although fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if the Mets want to see him make a handful of minor-league starts first. Senga should be stashed in all fantasy leagues.
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (shoulder) said that if his bullpen session on Wednesday goes well, he could be back in game action "sooner than later." Senga's progress was halted as he wants to work through mechanical issues before facing hitters for a third time. He doesn't want to aggravate his shoulder or create any other physical issues by going forward with mechanics that don't feel right to him, so he'll throw bullpen sessions this week until he feels more comfortable. It's not what fantasy managers wanted to hear, but the good news is the 31-year-old hasn't actually suffered a physical setback related to his shoulder strain. Senga is on the 60-day injured list and has yet to pitch in 2024, but he should be rostered in all fantasy formats. Don't expect Senga to make his debut this year until at least early June.

New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga turned in an excellent rookie season in 2023. The 30-year-old made 29 starts, going 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 29.1% strikeout rate in 166 1/3 innings pitched. He did walk too many batters with an 11.1% walk rate. However, he lived up to strikeout expectations, with a 12.5% overall swinging-strike rate and a ridiculous 26.8% swinging-strike rate with his "ghost fork". Senga's batted-ball profile was mediocre, and while his 4.00 SIERA was a good deal higher than his ERA, it was encouraging to see him get such strong results in his first MLB season. Senga is currently being drafted at about pick 74 overall, making him the 32nd pitcher off the board. He is currently being drafted just behind starters such as Logan Webb, Max Fried, Logan Gilbert, and Grayson Rodriguez. It is possible that Senga's walks and middling batted-ball profile could catch up to his ERA and WHIP in 2024, but his strikeout value is among the best in the league. As such, fantasy managers could even draft him above those other starters depending on how they shape the front-end of their rotations.
