Travis d'Arnaud News
Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud (head) is back behind the plate and is batting fifth for the second game of a doubleheader on Monday against the visiting San Diego Padres and right-hander Randy Vasquez. It will be d'Arnaud's first game since he was removed from Friday's game against San Diego early as a precaution after he dealt with dizziness from being hit by a foul tip. The good news is that the 35-year-old veteran avoided a concussion and a trip to the seven-day concussion list. His fantasy value remains high with Sean Murphy (oblique) still working his way back from an injury. d'Arnaud is also hitting .255/.336/.500 with an .836 OPS, five home runs, 16 RBI and 15 runs scored in his 102 at-bats so far in 2024. He's never faced Vasquez in his career.
Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud (head) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. The veteran backstop left Friday's game after taking a foul ball off of his mask. He reportedly felt dizzy after the incident, but he was not diagnosed with a concussion and is considered day-to-day. Chadwick Tromp will start behind the plate and bat ninth while d'Arnaud recovers. Tromp has minimal fantasy appeal, especially with Sean Murphy (oblique) inching closer to a return.
Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud (head) took a foul ball off his face mask in the sixth inning of Friday's 3-1 loss to the Padres and reported feeling dizzy afterward. The 35-year-old was checked for a concussion and passed the initial tests, so for now, it is being labeled as a head contusion. He'll be reevaluated Saturday and then they'll determine next steps, but it sounds like he'll avoid a stint on the IL. The veteran was replaced in the game by backup catcher Chadwick Tromp who could see additional action if d'Arnaud were to miss any time. The starting catcher to open the regular season, Sean Murphy, is on the verge of beginning a rehab assignment as well, so the Braves should be getting him back in the next couple weeks.

Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud remains a quality catching option for fantasy managers heading into the 2023 season. The veteran turned in a strong season for the National League East franchise in 2022, hitting .268 with a .319 on-base percentage and 18 home runs in 426 plate appearances. The home runs marked a career-high for the catcher, who unsurprisingly also turned in a strong barrel rate compared to his past metrics. For reference, d'Arnaud's barrel rate finished at 8.5%, the highest it's been in a full season in the last seven years. The veteran split time with fellow catcher William Contreras behind the plate during the 2022 campaign for the National League East club. And while Contreras is now in Milwaukee with the Brewers, the 33-year-old still won't be playing in a full-time role thanks to the arrival of Sean Murphy. Still, the lack of fantasy depth league-wide behind the plate positions d'Arnaud as a quality option for fantasy managers heading into drafts this spring.
