Yu Darvish News
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish was nearly unhittable on Sunday, throwing seven shutout innings of two-hit ball in a 9-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. This marks back-to-back Sunday Night Baseball victories for Darvish, who posted an eerily similar line last week against the Dodgers. In both outings he went seven innings and allowed zero runs, two hits, and a walk. The only difference is that he managed two more strikeouts in this one, totaling nine compared to seven last week. The dominant performance lowered his ERA to 2.08 and his WHIP to 0.90. He should be an easy start in all fantasy leagues after stellar outings against two of the best offenses in baseball and his streak of not allowing an earned run reaching 26 IP.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish blanked the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers in Sunday's victory. The veteran tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed two hits, one walk and struck out seven. It was an impressive start for the 37-year-old against one of the toughest offenses in the league. Darvish has been putting together a strong season over his first eight starts and owns a 3-1 record to go along with a 2.43 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 37 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. He should be rostered in all formats, but draws a tough matchup against the Atlanta Braves this weekend.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish was excellent again on Sunday, tossing seven shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 4-0 victory. Darvish allowed just two hits and one walk while punching out seven in this one. The 37-year-old is turning back the clock since returning from neck tightness in late April, going 3-0 in his three starts while not allowing any runs and generating a 15:2 K:BB ratio. Darvish is always a tough pitcher to analyze, but he is a must-start while he is on this heater. Looking to sell high on the righty might be a shrewd move, but it is also a risk.

San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish is heading into his age-38 season and was already showing signs of decline before being shut down at the end of August last year due to elbow inflammation. The five-time All-Star eventually needed offseason surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The good news is that Darvish doesn't have any limitations in spring training, but how much faith can fantasy managers put in an aging pitcher with a history of elbow concerns? In his 24 starts (136 1/3 innings) in 2023, Darvish went 8-10 with a 4.56 ERA (4.03 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 43 walks and 141 strikeouts. Darvish has the most strikeouts in MLB history among Japanese-born pitchers and has a 28.9% career strikeout rate, but that number has dropped to 25.1% over the last two years. His skills are in clear decline and he's a clear injury risk as an option to round out your fantasy rotation late in drafts. ATC is projecting Darvish to go 9-8 with a 4.09 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 146 K's in 144 innings in his fourth year in SD. RotoBaller has him ranked just inside the top 50 starting pitchers.
