Elandon Roberts News
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts (groin) was a limited participant in Tuesday's team practice. Roberts injured his groin in last week's game after playing just 15 snaps against the Arizona Cardinals. His upgraded practice status from Monday is a good step in the right direction for the veteran. But he'll have just one more chance to practice in full before the Steelers take on the New England Patriots on Thursday night. Roberts has been a middle-of-the-pack IDP option this season behind his 80 tackles and 1.5 sacks. If he can't go, linebacker Mark Robinson should see more opportunities.
Free-agent linebacker Elandon Roberts said he is signing an undisclosed two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. Roberts is coming off a great season for the Miami Dolphins with a career-high 107 tackles (68 solo), career-high 4.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and six QB hits in 17 regular season starts in his third year in Miami. The 28-year-old will fit an area of need for Pittsburgh in the middle of their defense heading into the 2023 campaign. Roberts was a former sixth-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2016 out of Houston, and he spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Pats before joining the division-rival Dolphins in 2020.
ESPN's Field Yates believes the Miami Dolphins will re-sign impending free-agent linebacker Elandon Roberts this offseason. The Dolphins have a lot of work to do to improve their defense, and Roberts should be a priority to retain. The 28-year-old was a team captain and is a physical enforcer and smart blitzer. He's certainly due a raise on his current deal of $2.75 million after totaling 104 total tackles and a career-high 4.5 sacks in 2022. In his three years with the Dolphins, Roberts has 143 solo tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, seven sacks, an interception, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 47 regular season games. With better injury luck in 2023, Miami's defense should recover, especially if they re-sign Roberts.
