Josh Jung News
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) still has not resumed swinging a bat and is at least six weeks from returning to the Rangers' starting lineup. Given the complex nature of his wrist fracture, Jung's recovery has been delayed, but he needs to remain stashed in all fantasy formats for his power upside in a strong Rangers lineup when he's back in the fold. The 26-year-old former eighth overall pick in 2019 out of Texas Tech has developed a bit of a reputation for being injury-prone early in his career, missing time with an injury in 2023 while also injuring his calf in spring training this year. Jung had surgery for his fractured right wrist on April 2 but resumed playing catch this week. Fantasy managers must remain patient. As a first-time All-Star in 2023, Jung hit .266 with 23 homers and 70 RBI in 122 games, and he already had two homers in his first four games this year before fracturing his wrist.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) played some catch on Wednesday before the team's game against the visiting Cleveland Guardians. It's the first baseball activity that Jung has done since he had surgery on April 2 to fix a fractured right wrist. It's good progress for the 26-year-old right-handed slugger, but it's just the start for Jung as he looks to overcome his wrist injury. Once he's able to hit live pitching, then Jung could be close to going on a minor-league rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks along the way in his rehab from wrist surgery, Jung could be an option to return as Texas' starting third baseman around the middle of June. The former eighth overall pick in 2019 out of Texas Tech was an All-Star in his first full season last year in Texas, hitting .266 (127-for-478) with 23 homers and 70 RBI in 122 games. Jung has developed a reputation for being injury-prone early in his career, but he should still be rostered in all fantasy formats while he recovers.
The Texas Rangers officially moved third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) to the 60-day injured list on Monday with a right-wrist fracture. The club also placed infielder Justin Foscue (oblique) on the 10-day injured list and selected the contract of infielder Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Round Rock. The oft-injured Jung is one of the rising young third basemen in the game, but the 26-year-old hasn't been able to stay healthy early in his career and is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks due to a broken right wrist. Despite the lengthy layoff, fantasy managers should keep Jung stashed in an IL spot in all leagues until he's able to return. In the meantime, Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran will likely continue splitting playing time at the hot corner for the defending World Series champions.

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is coming off of a productive rookie season at the dish. A 2023 All-Star, Jung hit .266 with 23 home runs, 75 runs, 70 RBI, and a .782 OPS across 122 games. While not all was rosy with his subpar 5.8% BB% and elevated 29.3% K% in mind, a 110 wRC+ is a fine season for any big-league first-timer. It's worth noting that his counting stats were hindered by a broken thumb that required surgery and cost him almost six weeks of action late in the season. Additionally, the gauntlet of a 162-game major league season appeared to get to the soon-to-be 26-year-old who hit .280 with an .835 OPS and .356 wOBA in the first half before regressing to a .229 average alongside a .638 OPS and .277 wOBA following the All-Star break. Jung ranked in the 77th percentile or better in xSLG, average exit velocity, barrel rate, hard-hit rate, and sweet-spot rate as a rookie. With an ADP of 103.19 as the 11th third baseman off the board, Jung is a solid investment on the back of big-time power and superior counting stats with full health and a strong Rangers supporting cast in 2024.
