Nolan Jones News
Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones (back) started his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday and went 0-for-3 with an RBI and a strikeout for the Isotopes while playing five innings in left field. It was the 26-year-old's first game since going on the 10-day injured list in late April with a lower-back strain. If Jones doesn't suffer any setbacks in the minors, he should be ready to return to the big-league roster pretty soon, possibly as early as this weekend against the Giants in San Francisco. The former second-round pick of the Cleveland Guardians in 2016 hit nearly .300 in 2023 with 20 homers and 20 stolen bases, so his power/speed combination makes him intriguing in all fantasy formats, especially playing half his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field. His fantasy managers will be hoping he can turn around his slow start in 2024 when he's activated, as he's currently slashing .170/.243/.277 with a homer and seven RBI in 26 games.
The hope is that Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones (back) will start defensive practice and resuming hitting in the cage this weekend. As he prepares to ramp up his baseball activities, Jones will "more than likely" need a brief minor-league rehab assignment before returning from a strained lower back. Following a 2023 breakout campaign, the 26-year-old left-handed hitter was slashing an icy .170/.243/.277 with one home run, five doubles, seven RBI, and two stolen bases through 94 at-bats (26 games) as Colorado's primary left fielder but remains a recommended stash with a mid-May return still a possibility. Top prospect Jordan Beck should continue receiving the lion's share of the reps in left field until Jones is ready to return, but he's hitting an empty .125 (3-for-24) over seven outings during his first stint in the major leagues.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones (back) did throwing and running drills on May 4 at PNC Park, a positive step in his recovery from a lower-back strain that landed him on the injured list last Tuesday. Jones dealt with back soreness last year as well and during spring training earlier this year. Manager Bud Black hasn't put a timetable on Jones' return but said that he is "progressing each day, which is encouraging -- we need him back to where he was last year." Barring setbacks, the 25-year-old left-handed slugger should be back starting for the Rockies by the middle of May. Jones hit .297/.389/.542 with 20 homers, 62 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 106 games for Colorado last year, so fantasy managers should stick with him despite his slow start in 2024.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones needed only 106 games to join the prestigious 20/20 club last season. He slashed .297/.389/.542 with 20 home runs, 60 runs, 62 RBI, 20 stolen bases, and a .884 OPS across 424 plate appearances. The 25-year-old excelled, especially down the stretch, with seven HRs, 23 runs and RBI, 12 steals, and a 1.112 OPS in September. This led many managers to a fantasy title and optimism to see what he could do in an entire season. Next year, Jones will be hitting third every day after Ezequiel Tovar, playing half his games in hitter-friendly Coors Field, so there are plenty of RBI chances in his future. He should be a mainstay in your daily lineup since he smacked as many home runs in 52 home games as in 54 away games. He's got the potential to crush his current FGDC projections of .265/.355/.465, 80 runs and RBI, 23 HR and 16 SB. Despite the high K-rate being a bit worrisome, he makes consistent and quality contact while being a menace on the base paths. If he stays healthy and picks up where he left off, he should push to become a 30/30 player and even the best outfielder on your squad. While Jones has massive upside, his current NFBC ADP is 55, almost 30 spots higher than RotoBaller's overall ranking of 84. However, the Guardians probably wish they could go back in time and hold onto Jones; don't share their regret by passing on him in your 2024 draft!
