Victor Scott II News
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Victor Scott II started the 2024 season on the big-league roster. He hit .085/.139/.136 in 65 plate appearances and was sent down to Triple-A Memphis on April 21st to improve his offensive production. Unfortunately, Scott has continued to struggle since his demotion. In 101 MiLB plate appearances, he's hitting .180/.270/.292 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, and nine stolen bases. Interestingly, his BABIP is just .206, much lower than the league-average .300. Scott may be getting unlucky when he does make contact. However, he's not making enough solid contact. Either way, he's unlikely to rejoin the Cardinals if his offensive numbers don't improve.
Since his demotion to Triple-A Memphis, St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Victor Scott II has struggled offensively. Scott, had a nice Grapefruit League that saw him break camp with the big-league squad, but his struggles with his bat ended up in a demotion with the Cardinals beginning to get healthier. Since his demotion, Scott's struggles have continued with four hits over 23 at-bats and two stolen bases. Scott is comparable to Billy Hamilton as he has quick speed, but the issue being that he needs to get on base to show it off. With 93 stolen bases in 2023, Scott presents as a pinch-runner now, but the sky can be the limit if he can make corrections at the plate and get on the basepaths more. For now, he will get more seasoning in Triple-A, but should be one of the first names called upon should an injury happen at the big-league level. Managers can ignore him in redraft leagues for now.
The St. Louis Cardinals optioned outfielder Victor Scott II and right-hander Andre Pallante to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday and recalled catcher Pedro Pages and right-hander Nick Robertson from Memphis in corresponding moves. Scott, the club's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, went 0-for-3 in the 12-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday and hasn't reached base since April 12. The 23-year-old former fifth-rounder in 2022 out of West Virginia made the team's Opening Day roster due to injuries to Tommy Edman (wrist), Dylan Carlson (shoulder) and Lars Nootbaar, but he recorded hits in just five of his first 65 trips to the plate in the big leagues with two walks and 15 strikeouts. Scott is worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues, but it's clear he needs some more minor-league seasoning.
