Charles Omenihu News
Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu (knee), who was set to line up across from San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams in Super Bowl LVIII, is undergoing surgery on his torn ACL on Tuesday, according to a source. Omenihu tore his ACL in the victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship and won't be available for the Chiefs this Sunday. The 26-year-old pass-rusher has a long recovery ahead of him and most likely will not be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season as a result. With Omenihu out, Felix Anudike-Uzomah should see more playing time against the 49ers in the big game. Omenihu is a notable loss for the Chiefs' pass-rushing group, though, as he had a career-high seven sacks in 11 regular-season games for the Chiefs in 2023.
Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu (knee) was optimistic on Sunday night about the knee injury he suffered in the win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship, but it an MRI exam revealed that he did tear his ACL, according to a source. Omenihu has been a big part of the Chiefs' strong defense this year, so it will be a big loss for that unit in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers in two weeks. The 26-year-old was injured in the second quarter on Sunday. With Omenihu unavailable for the big game against San Fran, rookie first-round pass-rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah will see more snaps on the defensive line. Omenihu, who most likely won't be ready for the start of the 2024 season now, had 28 tackles (18 solo), a career-high seven sacks and two forced fumbles in 11 regular season games in his first year in KC.
Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu (knee) won't return to Sunday's AFC Championship meeting with the Baltimore Ravens. The 26-year-old suffered a knee injury near the end of the second quarter and was listed as questionable to return. However, he was downgraded to out, so he'll likely hold an injury designation for the Super Bowl, assuming the Chiefs advance. Omenihu finished the regular season with seven sacks, the third-most on the team. He also had a sack on Sunday versus Baltimore, which resulted in a turnover.
