Geno Atkins News
Former Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Geno Atkins (shoulder) visited with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, according to his agency. Atkins is fully cleared from rotator-cuff surgery that cut his season short last year, and he could be a big-time addition to Seattle's defensive line if they sign him. The veteran pass-rusher would also reunite with former Bengals teammate Carlos Dunlap if he were to land in Seattle. The 33-year-old wasn't able to collect a single sack in just eight games (no starts) in his final year in Cincinnati last year, but the eight-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro would certainly bring some experience to the Seahawks pass rush. Dunlap has 75.5 career sacks in 161 games (134 starts) in his 11 years in the NFL.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said the team is releasing long-time star defensive tackle Geno Atkins on Friday. It's an end of an era in Cincinnati, but the Bengals needed to free up some more salary cap space after committing more than $120 million on five new starters in free agency this week. Atkins is an eight-time Pro Bowler and has a chance to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The Bengals will save $9.5 million on the salary cap this year with the move. Larry Ogunjobi is the likely replacement on Cincy's defensive line. Atkins was selected in the fourth round in 2010 out of Georgia and became one of the league's most dominant pass-rushers. He has racked up 75.5 sacks in 161 career games, which ranks him sixth all time on the list of pure defensive tackles in NFL history. But Atkins turns 33 in nine days and had zero sacks in 2020 while playing through an injured shoulder.
The Cincinnati Bengals placed defensive tackle Geno Atkins (shoulder) on the Injured Reserve on Wednesday with a right shoulder injury that has been bothering him all year long. A source said he will have shoulder surgery. The fourth-round pick of 2010 will miss the rest of the season with just three games remaining. An already weak Bengals Defense will be ripe for the picking against a Steelers team that has struggled on offense in their two straight losses. It'll be a nice bounce-back spot for them. The 32-year-old eight-time Pro Bowler will finish the 2020 season with just one tackle and one QB hit in eight games played in an injury plagued campaign. Cincy's already vulnerable run defense will be even more attackable with Atkins out.
