CJ Abrams News
Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams is not in the team's starting lineup on Wednesday as they take on the Chicago White Sox. Abrams will get the day off against a left-handed pitcher after playing in both games of a doubleheader in Chicago on Tuesday. It's the first time that the 23-year-old emerging superstar has been out of the team's lineup since April 8. With Abrams starting on the bench, Nasim Nunez will make the start at shortstop and will bat ninth for the Nats against White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet. DFS gamers should look elsewhere at the shortstop position on Wednesday. Abrams is in the midst of a breakout campaign in his second full season in D.C. He's currently hitting .263/.326/.494 with an .819 OPS, seven home runs, seven doubles, a league-leading four triples, 20 RBI, eight stolen bases and 26 runs scored in 38 games played.
Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams showcased his power and speed in Monday's 7-2 win over the Marlins. Abrams went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, two walks, and a stolen base. The 23-year-old has traded some of his speed for power to this point but is slashing a solid .297/.377/.634 with seven HR, 17 RBI, and six stolen bases in 115 plate appearances. He has provided plenty of fantasy value, even if it hasn't been exactly as fantasy managers expected.
Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams kicked off the game with a bang during Wednesday's matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Abrams welcomed Dodgers rookie Logan Knack to the majors with a 392-foot leadoff blast to start the game. The Nats didn't need much more as they pulled off the 2-0 victory. Abrams is on fire at the plate right now with two home runs in his last three games. He's hitting .295 with five home runs and 11 RBI in 15 games.

There's little doubt Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams had himself a fine season in 2023. In his age-22 season, the former Padres farmhand hit .245 with 18 home runs and 47 stolen bases, the latter of which ranked fourth in all of baseball. His power came as a little bit of a surprise as he hit just two homers in 90 games as a rookie in 2022 and hadn't previously displayed much pop in the minors. At the same time, while he posted a quality 19.2% K%, Abrams walked in just 5.2% of his plate appearances, producing a subpar .300 on-base percentage in the process. Additionally, he ranked in the 21st percentile or worse in xwOBA, average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate, just to name a few inferior Statcast categories. He is currently the eighth shortstop being taken off the board, narrowly behind a much higher floor in 25-year-old Bo Bichette. With ATC projecting regression across the board for Abrams in 2024, dynasty managers would be wiser to wait for Jackson Holliday at a 203.49 ADP for long-term stability at short rather than biting on Abrams with an overvalued ADP at 39.07 ADP.
