Ha-Seong Kim News
San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim (wrist) is back at shortstop and is hitting ninth for the Friars on Monday at Petco Park for the series opener against the visiting Colorado Rockies and right-hander Dakota Hudson. Kim had to be removed from Sunday's win over the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers after he was hit by a pitch on his left wrist. Thankfully, the 28-year-old middle infielder's X-rays came back negative and now he's back in the starting lineup a day later. After a career year in 2023 in which he hit ..260/.351/.398 with 17 home runs, 60 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 152 games, he's disappointed so far with a .208/.316/.362 slash line with five home runs, 21 RBI and eight stolen bases in 43 games. Kim is an everyday player and remains fantasy relevant, mostly for his speed on the base paths, but hitting at the bottom of SD's batting order is bad for his upside.
San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim has shown some unexpected pop in his bat early in the season. On Thursday, Kim went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the loss to the Colorado Rockies. The 28-year-old now has four homers on the season, which is nice to see. It's also worth noting that Kim has stolen seven bases as well. He's struggling a bit in other areas, but has done enough to keep himself fantasy relevant.
San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim went 1-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's victory against the Milwaukee Brewers. Kim blasted a three-run homer off Wade Miley as part of a four-run first inning and that would be enough for the Padres to secure a 6-3 victory. The homer was his third of the season and he has now driven in 12 runs to go along with four stolen bases. Kim's .225 batting average isn't ideal at the moment, but he has helped out in all other categories. Kim should remain rostered in all formats with his ability to help across the board.

What a year it was for San Diego Padres second baseman Ha-Seong Kim in 2023. In his third season with the Padres, he was one of the team's most consistent performers all around and set career-highs in batting average (.260), on-base percentage (.351), slugging percentage (.398), OPS (.749), home runs (17), RBI (60), stolen bases (38) and runs scored (84) in a career-high 152 games played. The 28-year-old Korean infielder has steadily shown increased plate discipline in each of his three major-league seasons and no longer looks overmatched by big-league pitching like he did in his first year in 2021. Most of Kim's production has come as a lefty killer, as he produced a 148 wRC+ against southpaws in 2023, compared to just a 95 wRC+ against right-handers. Because of his breakout campaign, Kim went from being a bargain in fantasy drafts last spring to now being overpriced. ATC sees him hitting .248 with 15 home runs, 60 RBI and a drop in stolen bases from 38 to 27 in 2024. Kim's multi-position eligibility at shortstop, second and third base justifies his draft-day price more, and there's still room for improvement in his batting average if he can find more success against right-handed pitching. At RotoBaller, Kim is ranked 77th overall and is considered the No. 7 fantasy second baseman, just behind the Yankees' Gleyber Torres.
