Ian Happ News
Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (hamstring) is back in left field and is hitting second for the Cubs on Tuesday against the visiting Houston Astros and right-hander J.P. France. Happ tweaked his hamstring last Friday and sat out Saturday and Sunday. But after the team's scheduled off day on Monday, the 29-year-old switch-hitter is ready to return to Chicago's starting lineup. Happ will be looking to bust out of a recent slump that has seen him record just four hits in his last 35 at-bats now that he's healthy again. Overall this year, he's hitting .240/.352/.360 with a home run, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored in his first 75 at-bats. In his two career at-bats against France, Happ has two hits and an RBI.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. Happ was removed from Friday's game in the seventh inning due to left hamstring tightness. He also did not play on Saturday. Happ is reportedly available to pinch hit today if necessary and is hopeful he will return soon. Fantasy managers can consider Happ day-to-day for now and should check to see if he draws back into the lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Houston Astros. In his absence, Alexander Canario will start in left field and bat ninth on Sunday. Canario is not a recommended option in any fantasy format.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (hamstring) was pulled in the seventh inning of Friday's win over the visiting Miami Marlins due to right-hamstring tightness, according to manager Craig Counsell. Happ's status for the rest of the weekend is now to be determined. Given the fact that Happ also missed time in spring training with a left-hamstring strain, fantasy managers should not be surprised at all if this ends up being an injured-list situation for the switch-hitting outfielder. For now, the 29-year-old should be considered day-to-day. There's a good chance he won't play on Saturday, but check back anyway to see if he's active. With Seiya Suzuki (oblique) already on the IL, the Cubbies would be down to Cody Bellinger, Mike Tauchman and rookie Alexander Canario in their outfield, although Garrett Cooper and Patrick Wisdom could also be used out there.

The switch-hitting Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ is coming off his second straight season of capturing a Gold Glove. He can be counted on for fantasy managers to be in the lineup daily. In the batter's box, Happ is known for his elite on-base skills, which continued in 2023 as he registered an excellent .360 OBP compared to .342 the year prior. He also saw a slight increase in power in 2023 as he launched 21 home runs, a slight increase of four compared to 2022. However, this number could go back down as he had a below-league average 39.0% hard-hit rate and placed in the 55th percentile with a 9.0 barrel%. The University of Cincinnati product excelled against right-handed pitchers as a switch-hitter but struggled substantially against southpaws in 2023. Happ tallied a .450 SLG and .380 OBP against right-handers while only putting up a .385 SLG and disappointing .309 OBP versus lefties. Despite these splits and a potential drop in power, Happ is a sure bet to be at the top of outfielders from an OBP perspective. He is a lock to play nearly every day and is worth considering at his current NFBC ADP of 154. ATC projects the left fielder to continue to have a robust .347 OBP in 2024.
