Jordan Montgomery News
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery fired seven strong innings in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, surrendering just two runs on seven hits and two walks with two punchouts in his second win of the season. It was arguably Montgomery's best start as a D-back to this point, though his first start back on April 19 may have been just as impressive. The 31-year-old veteran southpaw will still want to improve on his disappointing 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 10:6 K:BB over 23 frames (four starts) for Arizona when he takes the ball in his next scheduled appearance at home in a soft matchup against these same Reds on Monday. Cincinnati is now batting .209 as a team through 36 games, which is the worst mark in all of baseball.
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery will not make his scheduled start in Tuesday's game against the Dodgers because the game was delayed to deal with a bee infestation by home plate. Brandon Hughes, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day, will fill in to start instead. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for more news regarding Montgomery's next start. Hughes had a 1.84 ERA in 14 2/3 relief innings in Triple-A this season, but fantasy managers should not trust him against the Dodgers.
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Jordan Montgomery will make his season debut on Friday against the San Francisco Giants. Montgomery signed a one-year, $25 million contract late into the offseason with the Diamondbacks. In his final tune-up with Triple-A Reno, Montgomery was torched for seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out six over 3 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old will join Arizona's rotation next week and likely replace Tommy Henry or Ryne Nelson. Montgomery was solid for the Rangers/Cardinals in 2023, posting a 3.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and a 166:48 K: BB across 188 2/3 innings.

Free-agent left-hander Jordan Montgomery has simply been among the most consistent, durable pitchers in baseball over the last three seasons. After making 32 starts and pitching a career-high 188 2/3 innings in 2023, the 31-year-old is tied for sixth in starts over the last three seasons with 94 while pitching to a rock-solid 3.48 ERA in that time. He's also walked just 6.2% of the batters he has faced in that stretch. He reached double-digit wins (10) for the first time in 2023, including a 4-2 record alongside a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts with Texas after going just 6-9 despite a 3.42 ERA in 21 starts with the Cardinals. He won't deliver much in the strikeout department with a career 22.5% K%, including a 21.4% mark last season, but his 15.9% K-BB% remains solid and he could rack up plenty of wins if he signs with a contender. Nonetheless, he's a safe play wherever he plays in 2024 at a 145.50 ADP, even if his ceiling has already been met.
