Ryan Jeffers News
Minnesota Twins catcher/designated hitter Ryan Jeffers continued his power surge in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Yankees. Jeffers went 1-for-4 with a leadoff home run and three strikeouts. The 26-year-old has continued his offensive success from last season and is now slashing .290/.368/.629 with 10 HR and 31 RBI in 144 plate appearances. He has become a higher-end fantasy catcher option.
Minnesota Twins catcher/designated hitter Ryan Jeffers is tied for ninth in the American League with nine home runs. He has served in the DH role for the Twins more than anyone else, but despite that, he has yet to hit a home run as the DH. Eight of Jeffers' home runs have come on days when he's the starting catcher, and the other homer came when he was used as a pinch-hitter. It's something to watch, but Jeffers is hitting .275 as the DH with a .772 OPS and six doubles. "If it was a problem, it would be on our radar. But he's had good at-bats as the DH. He's comfortable as the DH," manager Rocco Baldelli said. "If the definition of hitting for power is hitting home runs, then no. But he's hitting the ball hard as hell all over the park, even as the DH."
Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers has been red-hot at the plate to begin the month of May. On Tuesday, Jeffers went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the loss to the Seattle Mariners. At the time, his offensive heroics helped the team get the lead, but it didn't last. Despite that, Jeffers is hitting 6-for19 with two homers and eight RBI this month. Fantasy managers in need of catching help should take a look at Jeffers.

Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers became the team's primary catcher at season end and slashed .276/.369/.490 with 14 home runs, 46 RBI, 43 runs, and three stolen bases over 96 games in 2023. He is expected to split time with Christian Vazquez, who struggled mightily offensively last season. Jeffers has more upside than Vazquez, and his bat could earn him more playing time opportunities. According to Baseball Savant, his 11.6% barrel percentage is in the 90th percentile, while his BB% has increased each of the last three seasons. Jeffers should be in the lineup against righties after slashing .281/.361/.467 with eight homers and 27 RBI over 241 plate appearances. The Twins will rotate between Jeffers and Vazquez in an effort to keep both backstops healthy. RotoBaller has Jeffers ranked 21st among all catchers heading into 2024 drafts. The 26-year-old has an NFBC ADP of 249, making him a solid second catcher for leagues required to start two backstops. ATC is on board with Jeffers providing solid production in 2024 and projects him to slash .240/.323/.439 with 16 homers, 46 RBI, 47 runs, and two stolen bases across 102 games. Jeffers won't crush in any category but produces enough to make him a viable second catcher in most fantasy leagues.
