Zac Gallen News
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen continued his strong season in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Reds. Gallen pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and three walks with six strikeouts. The 28-year-old has looked like a fantasy ace, going 4-2 with a 2.84 ERA and a 9.71 K/9 rate in seven starts and 38 IP. His next scheduled start will be a test at the Orioles, but Gallen is a must-start fantasy option at this point.
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) is penciled in to make his next start on Tuesday in Cincinnati against the Reds. Gallen left his last start last Friday with a minor hamstring injury. He was set to make his return on normal rest this Wednesday to face the Los Angeles Dodgers, but a long delay before Tuesday night's game caused lefty Jordan Montgomery to be pushed back to Wednesday. It allowed the D-backs to give the 28-year-old a little more rest before his next start. It's a bummer for fantasy managers that Gallen isn't starting at all this week, but he'll also get a much better matchup in the Reds than the Dodgers. He shouldn't have any issues with his hammy and should be returned to starting lineups in all fantasy formats next Tuesday.
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) is asymptomatic, but left-hander Jordan Montgomery being scratched on Tuesday night due to a lengthy delay gave the team the opportunity to give Gallen some more rest. Gallen is being pushed back to, at the earliest, Sunday against the San Diego Padres, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Slade Cecconi will take the hill for the Snakes in the series opener on Friday night. The 28-year-old Gallen suffered a minor hamstring injury last week and was originally scheduled to take his regular spot in the rotation until Montgomery was pushed back on Tuesday night. While Gallen may not make a start for fantasy managers this week, he'll at least avoid a tough matchup against the division-rival Dodgers on Wednesday night. Fantasy managers will want to start him the next time he's on the bump on extra rest.

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen finished third in Cy Young voting in 2023, marking his highest career finish and securing his second-straight top-five season. The 28-year-old delivered a career-high 210 innings with a 3.47 ERA and an impressive 26 percent strikeout rate. Following an exceptional 2022 season where Gallen posted a WHIP under one and an expected ERA of just 3.17, he experienced a slight regression but still managed to achieve a higher placement in Cy Young voting. Notably, his 46.2 percent hard-hit rate and 91-mile-per-hour average exit velocity were both career highs by a significant margin, contributing to his first-ever season with an expected ERA over four. While his basic stats have remained very good, the peripherals indicate some regression could be on the way. Gallen's strikeout and walk numbers have remained remarkably consistent throughout his career, providing a reliable indicator for the upcoming season. Though he may trail behind pitchers like Spencer Strider and Gerrit Cole, Gallen remains a solid option, ranking eighth among starting pitchers with an ADP of around 40, presenting potential value in the draft.
