Dalvin Tomlinson News
The Cleveland Browns are expected to sign former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, landing a coveted big-time defender on the first day of free agency. Tomlinson will receive a four-year deal worth $57 million, including $27.5 million guaranteed. In his two seasons with the Vikings, Tomlinson had five sacks, 37 solo tackles, five tackles for loss, 17 QB hits, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 29 regular season starts. The 29-year-old was limited to a career-low 523 defensive snaps in 2022 due to a calf injury that caused him to miss four games. Tomlinson will give the Browns a strong interior presence to pair with All-Pro pass-rusher Myles Garrett on the outside.
Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson's deal was set to void in recent days, which would have pushed $7.5 million of dead money onto the team's 2023 salary cap. Instead, both sides agreed to move the void date to March 15, which buys them more time to reach a long-term contract extension to avoid all $7.5 million hitting the 2023 cap. The 28-year-old former second-rounder in 2017 played in a career-low 13 games for the Vikings in 2022 due to a calf injury, causing him to play a career-low 523 defensive snaps. He finished the year with 42 tackles (20 solo), 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
ESPN's Field Yates isn't expecting the Minnesota Vikings to re-sign impending free-agent defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson this offseason. Tomlinson has been solid for Minnesota and should command a nice salary on the open market as a gifted pass-rusher and big-bodied run-stopper. But the Vikings will be more motivated to pay wide receiver Justin Jefferson to a deal that will potentially be the richest ever for a wideout. The 28-year-old Tomlinson had 42 tackles (20 solo), 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery in 13 regular season games for the Vikings in 2022 while being limited to a career-low in defensive snaps due to a calf injury that caused him to miss four games. Minnesota is also $24.5 million over the salary cap as things currently stand.
