Miguel Montero News
Washington Nationals catcher Matt Wieters (oblique) was activated from the disabled list on Wednesday and backup catcher Miguel Montero was designated for assignment to make room for Wieters. Montero had gone hitless this season and was made redundant with the excellent play of catcher Pedro Severino. The Nationals now have 10 days to trade Montero or seven days to pass him through waivers. If Montero clears waivers, he can be sent down to the minors. But general manager Mike Rizzo is indicating that the club will likely let him go to pursue playing time with another team. Wieters went 1-for-4 in his rehab stint with High-A Potomac on Tuesday. He hasn't hit very well and could lose significant playing time to Severino, who is increasingly looking like a fantasy sleeper.
Washington Nationals catcher Miguel Montero has returned from paternity leave. Recent call-up Jhonatan Solano (elbow) will go on the 10-day disabled list with bone spurs in his elbow. The Nationals will have quite the conundrum once Matt Wieters returns from the DL, possibly later this week. Pedro Severino has been great and the team is thinking about keeping three catchers on their roster. Montero can not be sent down and would need to be designated for assignment if the team only goes with Wieters and Severino.
Washington Nationals catcher Miguel Montero has gone on paternity leave and will be away from the team up to three days. Jhonatan Solano, a former Marlin, has been called up to take his place and back up Pedro Severino. Solano hasn't played a major league game since 2015 and isn't relevant for fantasy purposes.
