Patrick Bailey News
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey blasted his third home run of the year in Friday's 3-0 win over the Pirates. It was Bailey's only hit in the game but it came at the right time. In a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the ninth, Pirates closer David Bednar walked the first batter he saw, then gave up a single, bringing Bailey to the plate. The 24-year-old deposited a four-seam fastball over the right field wall for the 3-0 walk-off win. Bailey is having a solid season at the plate thus far, slashing .297/.365/.516 with five doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, six runs scored, and a stolen base in 75 plate appearances. For fantasy, however, those numbers don't really move the needle and he can be left to the waiver wire for now.
San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (hamstring) and catcher Patrick Bailey (hand) are both back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels. Lee is in center field and batting leadoff, while Bailey is behind the dish and hitting seventh for the Gigantes. The 25-year-old Lee was held out of the spring lineup for a few days after tweaking his hamstring last week. It wasn't a serious injury, and he's fully expected to be ready for Opening Day on March 28 versus the San Diego Padres as the team's leadoff man and starting center fielder after inking a six-year, $113 million deal to come over from Korea. Bailey took a foul tip off his right hand over a week ago in the Cactus League and is now fully recovered. He struggled at the plate at the end of his rookie season and should only be an option in two-catcher fantasy leagues in 2024.
The San Francisco Giants are saying that catcher Patrick Bailey (hand) will be back in a Cactus League game in the next day or two. Bailey hasn't played in a week at spring training since taking a foul tip off his hand, but he appears to be fine now and will return to game action before the end of spring games early next week. The 24-year-old switch-hitting backstop hit .233/.285/.359 with seven home runs, 48 RBI and 29 runs scored in 353 plate appearances over 97 games in his rookie season for the Gigantes in 2023. Bailey caught fire early on after his big-league promotion but struggled in the second half. While he should see most of the playing time behind the plate in San Fran because of his defensive prowess, he's not really relevant in single-catcher fantasy leagues.
