Vaughn Grissom News
Boston Red Sox middle infielder Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) will play back-to-back minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Worcester on Saturday and Sunday and has at least a chance to be activated from the injured list for the start of a series against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. So far on his rehab assignment, the 23-year-old has gone 5-for-22 with two doubles and two stolen bases. Before hurting his hamstring, Grissom was projected to be Boston's regular second baseman. That should still be the case once he's finally able to return from the IL at some point next week, especially given all of the Red Sox's injury woes so far in 2024. With 15/15 potential at the plate, Grissom is a must-add off the waiver wire if he's available in your fantasy league.
It's unlikely that Boston Red Sox infielder Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) will return from the injured list this weekend, but he's getting close. Grissom continues to rehab in the minor leagues at Triple-Worcester and has played in six games to this point, going 4-for-18 (.222) with no homers or RBI and two stolen bases in 22 plate appearances. The 23-year-old has split time between shortstop and second base on his rehab assignment, but he's expected to operate as Boston's primary second baseman once he's ready to make his debut for the Red Sox. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks over the weekend, Grissom could be reinstated to make his 2024 debut next Tuesday at home against the San Francisco Giants. In deep-mixed leagues, he's absolutely worth a pickup if you need middle-infield help.
Boston Red Sox second baseman/shortstop Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) is continuing his minor-league rehab assignment for Triple-A Worcester, playing second base in back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday. Grissom served as the designated hitter in his first three outings, so it's a good sign in his recovery from a strained right hamstring. Since the 23-year-old infielder didn't participate in spring training, he may have an extended stay in the minors until he's ready to make his Red Sox debut. With that said, Grissom could still be activated from the injured list before April's end. With Trevor Story (shoulder) done for the year, Grissom figures to split his time on the diamond at the keystone as well as shortstop. For his big-league career, Grissom is batting a promising .287 (62-for-216) with 15 extra-base hits, 27 RBI, 29 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 64 outings and is worth stashing in all fantasy leagues for his hitting upside.

Boston Red Sox second baseman Vaughn Grissom was acquired in the offseason as an offensive upgrade at the position, however, after suffering a groin strain in spring workouts, it is unclear exactly when he'll debut. Thankfully it doesn't sound like he'll miss much of the regular season, if any. The former 11th-round draft pick has been superb at the plate in the minors and has more than held his own during two stints in the majors, collecting a career .287-5-27-29-5 line with a .326 WOBA and 107 wRC+ over 236 PA. In his limited sample, the 23-year-old posted an 81.3% Contact% last season and a 10.3% SwStr%, both better than league average. His 18.8% K% in 2023 was better than average, but his BB% was just 2.5%, so that needs improvement. ATC projections see Grissom getting 527 PA this season, with a .280-10-58-64-11 line, .330 WOBA, and 103 wRC+. The youngster is going around pick 313 in NFBC drafts, but RotoBaller has an optimistic view of when he'll be back and how he'll produce once he returns, ranking him at 218 overall. Also note that he's currently only eligible at shortstop, but would have dual eligibility at shortstop and second base soon after he debuts.
